Join us at the Western Science Center to explore the intersection of art and science. This small, hands-on natural dye workshop will cover the history and science of how a small insect, Dactylopius coccus, influenced textiles around the world. Learn how to grind insects, fold fabric into different patterns, and customize your garment into shades of pinks and purples.
This 60 Minute Science workshop is beginner friendly; all materials (cochineal, dye equipment, and 1 bandana) will be provided and included in the cost of your ticket. This workshop is recommended for ages 12+, as there will be boiling water and dye involved.
Please note that this program's doors will open 10 minutes prior to the start and will close promptly at 12:00 PM.
