Inspired collections: Artist Submission
We are excited to announce the return of Inspired Collections, our now annual art exhibit, where artists and scientific illustrators of all stripes are encouraged to take inspiration from our incredible fossil collection.
In celebration of our 20th anniversary, we invite artists to create works inspired by the fossil that started it all: Max the Pacific Mastodon.
Where
Inspired Collections will be hosted at the Western Science Center in our temporary exhibit hallway.
when
April 18th - July 10th: Art submissions acceptance.
August 22nd: Inspired Collections opens to the public, and will run through Fall 2026 (exact closure date TBD).
How
Please fill out the Inspired Collections submission form.
Submitted art will be juried and selected by WSC staff members. Artists will be notified of selections by July 17th.
Selected artwork must be display-ready and physically delivered to the Western Science Center by August 1st.
All potential art sales must be handled by the artist; the Western Science Center will not accept payment for any artwork displayed in Inspired Collections. If you wish to make your art available for sale during the duration of the exhibit, please provide us with appropriate contact information for potential buyers. Sold art cannot be removed prior to the closure of the exhibit.
All artwork will be off exhibit and available for pick up by November 30th.
Museum Draw-in days
Get inspiration directly from the source during a free after-hours museum draw-in event!
Hosted by Collections & Communications Manager Brittney Elizabeth Stoneburg and Educator/Exhibits Specialist Margaret Ozolins, you’ll have the chance to draw inspiration directly from Max the Pacific mastodon while the museum is closed to the public.
Space is extremely limited, so be sure to sign up early! Museum draw-in days are free; the rest of the museum will not be accessible during the event. For the care and safety of our collections, please only bring drawing tools for this experience; no paints, acrylics, etc.
